Production and refinement

The harvest is carried out mechanically during the coolest hours of the day to preserve the grapes’ integrity and aromatic qualities. After gentle pneumatic pressing, the must is clarified through cold settling. Fermentation and aging take place exclusively in stainless steel, without the use of oak, so as to preserve the varietal character of Sauvignon Blanc.

During aging, periodic bâtonnage of the lees is carried out every 15 days, a technique that gives greater softness and roundness to the palate while maintaining freshness and aromatic precision.

Aging takes place in stainless steel with periodic bâtonnage on the fine lees; no oak is used, for a white wine that aims to express the grape variety and terroir in a direct way.

Saget La Pierre

We are in Pouilly-sur-Loire, in the heart of one of the most renowned wine-growing regions in the world, on the left bank of the Loire River. At Domaine Saget La Pierre, winemaking has been practiced since 1790.

This passion has been passed down from generation to generation, until Laurent Saget, who now runs the estate, producing wines of the highest quality.

Saget La Pierre

The soil on which their vineyards root is mainly composed of clay and limestone, a unique combination that gives the wines both finesse and richness.

The philosophy of Domaine Saget La Pierre is to intervene as little as possible in the vineyard and in the cellar, allowing the wines to express the most authentic characteristics of the grape variety and the terroir.

Loire Valley

The Loire Valley is one of the largest and most interesting wine regions in France, located west of Burgundy: here, viticulture is practiced right along the namesake river. Various types of wines are produced, including whites, reds, rosés, sparkling wines, and even sweet wines. The Loire is especially famous for its excellent white wines, particularly from Sauvignon and Chenin Blanc grapes, though it also has a noteworthy production of red wines, mainly based on Cabernet Franc and Gamay.
The Loire Valley is also famous for Muscadet, a wine renowned for its ideal pairing with shellfish, made from the Melon de Bourgogne grape, which is called Muscadet in this region.

The climate in the Loire Valley is generally quite cool; both the temperature and the latitude place the region almost at the limit for the survival and cultivation of vines. This results in a particularly low sugar content in the grapes, producing wines that are light, low in alcohol, and characterized by high acidity. When barrels are used for maturation, the outcome includes robust wines with toasted notes, features that differ from what can be considered the classic styles of the region.

The region stretches along the course of the Loire River, the longest in France. The most suitable areas start from the cities of Nevers, Bourges, and Orléans. From these territories come the most famous wines of the region: AOCs such as Sancerre, Pouilly-Fumé, Vouvray, Savennières, Quarts de Chaume, Montlouis, Chinon, Bourgueil, Menetou-Salon, and Muscadet. The most important area of the Loire Valley is in the north, itself divided into three zones: one more westerly, near the Atlantic coast (around Nantes), where the AOC Muscadet is found, a central one with the AOCs Anjou-Saumur and Touraine, and an eastern one (south of Orléans), with the AOCs Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé. The production in the two outer areas focuses on white wines, while in the central area the production is varied, with whites, reds, rosés, sparkling wines, and sweet wines made from grapes affected by Botrytis Cinerea. The Loire Valley also has a vast area of Vin de Pays production.

Pouilly-Fumé

The wine region of Pouilly-Fumé is located in the Loire Valley, one of the most renowned wine areas in France. This appellation is situated just south of Orléans, on the eastern bank of the Loire River, near the town of Pouilly-sur-Loire. The area is particularly renowned for its white wines produced with Sauvignon Blanc.

The soils of Pouilly-Fumé are rich in limestone, chalk, and flint, elements that contribute to giving the wines a characteristic smoky note, from which the name "Fumé" derives. This characteristic is complemented by ethereal notes of flint and a pronounced acidity, which give the wines finesse and elegance.

The area enjoys a favorable climate with moderate temperatures and light rainfall, ideal for the cultivation of Sauvignon Blanc. The grapes grown in these soils express the best of their potential, producing wines that are appreciated for their quality and distinctiveness.

Pouilly-Fumé is one of the most prestigious appellations in the Loire Valley, famous especially for its white wines but not only, produced on limestone soils that enhance the characteristics of Sauvignon Blanc.
