Production and refinement

Nebbiolo of the Prunent biotype, grown on heroic, terraced vineyards with slopes over 30% and altitudes above 500 meters. Hand-harvested, with careful selection of the grape clusters.

The grapes are crushed and left to ferment on the skins for at least 10 days in stainless steel tanks at a maximum temperature of 28 °C. This is followed by aging in oak barrels for at least one year, then resting in the bottle for at least six months before release.

Cantine Garrone

Cantine Garrone is an ancient winery located in the mountains of Ossola, a unique example of Alpine viticulture. Here, generations of winemakers have shaped the landscape, creating impressive terraces carved into the rock and building kilometers of dry stone walls. At the heart of this land grows Prunënt, a biotype of Nebbiolo cultivated in this border valley between the Monte Rosa massif and the Simplon Pass. While in the 19th century the area counted around 1,000 hectares of vineyards, today only 40 remain, preserved thanks to the work of the Ossola Agricultural Producers Association. Leading the fourth generation of winemakers is the Garrone family, headed by Marco, who has revitalized and given new perspective to this mountain viticulture with great determination.

Cantine Garrone

Despite the challenges, some century-old, ungrafted vines still survive today. The Garrone family’s dedication to restoring and safeguarding this landscape and grape variety is a valuable example of preserving a heritage that would otherwise be lost—today more relevant than ever. All of this takes place on just 10 hectares of vineyard.

Piedmont

In Piedmont, the first traces of viticulture date back to pre-Roman times (precisely to the Bronze Age, around 1500 B.C.), and although today the peak of quality is found in the region's great red wines, Piedmont also produces excellent white wines and sparkling wines.

The role of Piedmont has been fundamental for the development of modern Italian winemaking. It is here that the first examples of zoning of wine-growing areas were recorded, introducing concepts such as terroir and cru to Italian wines. Thanks to zoning, if a wine is produced exclusively from grapes coming from a single vineyard or parcel, the geographical indication appears on the label, increasing its prestige.

In addition to the geographical delineations indicated on the map, Piedmont is divided into 8 zones that group the 16 DOCG and 42 regional DOCs. Among these, we remember in the north the famous Gattinara DOCG and Ghemme DOCG, near Turin the Erbaluce di Caluso DOCG, in Monferrato the Barbera del Monferrato Superiore DOCG, Brachetto d’Acqui DOCG, Dogliani DOCG, Ovada DOCG, Gavi DOCG, and Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato DOCG, ending with Roero DOCG to the left of the Tanaro river and, in the Langhe region, with the famous Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, and Dogliani DOCG.

In Piedmont, the revolution in the world of wine began, bringing Italy back to the forefront of high-quality production. Here, with few exceptions, single-varietal wines are produced, which best express the characteristics of the terroir and magnificently exalt the Piedmontese territory.

Verbano-Cusio-Ossola

The province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola is divided into four main territories: Ossola, Verbano, Cusio, and Vergante.

The wine denomination of the province is solely the Valli Ossolane DOC, which mainly focuses on the area of Ossola, with heroic vineyards growing on terraces and slopes with a gradient greater than 30% and altitudes exceeding 500 meters.

In these valleys, with lands distributed in the northernmost part of Piedmont in the areas of Alto Vercellese and Alto Novarese, in the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, Nebbiolo, Croatina, Merlot, and Chardonnay are produced.

Nebbiolo in this territory is also known as Prunent and represents the main native grape variety, known since the fourteenth century.

The Valli Ossolane, in the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, are the heart of the eponymous wine denomination, where heroic vineyards cling to terraces on steep slopes with altitudes exceeding 500 meters.
