Production and refinement

Chenin Blanc 100%, a symbol of the region.

The wine ferments for several months in stainless steel at controlled temperature to preserve its aromatic freshness. After fermentation, it rests for a few months on fine lees, an aging process that enriches its body, enhances its aromas, and smooths its structure, while keeping its freshness intact.

Organoleptic analysis

Visual exam

Bright straw yellow.

Olfactory examination

The bouquet is refined and complex: initially floral, with clear hints of blooming acacia, followed by fruity notes ranging from crisp pear to nuances of sweet almond and subtle balsamic suggestions. An elegant nose that invites tasting without ever being overbearing.

Tasting

On the palate, it captivates with its silky, smooth texture, enlivened by citrusy freshness that adds verticality. It is a crisp white, light yet rich in nuances, with a finish that lingers on the mineral notes typical of the sandy soils of the Loire. The balance between tension and softness makes it an extremely versatile wine.

Saget Guy Domaine

Domaine Guy Saget is one of the most recognizable and established names in the Loire Valley, a guardian of a tradition that dates back to 1790 and today skillfully combines centuries of expertise with an innovative spirit. The Saget family, led by Jean-Louis together with his sons Laurent and Arnaud, cultivates vineyards spread across some of the region’s most renowned terroirs, selected over generations for their ideal climate and soil characteristics.

The estate’s heritage is expressed through four distinct entities – Domaine Saget, Domaine de Terres Blanches, Domaine des Grandes Espérances, and Château de la Mulonnière – each with its own identity, a specific focus on grape varieties and appellations, and a dedicated winemaker. This structure ensures a tailor-made approach to winemaking: each wine reflects not only its terroir of origin, but also the personality and expertise of those who have guided it step by step.

Saget Guy Domaine

The philosophy of the Saget family is built on clear values: pursuit of the highest quality, respect for nature, and a balance between tradition and innovation. The wines are fermented using traditional methods to preserve authenticity, while also embracing the most modern cellar techniques. The result is a portfolio of signatures that captures the best of the Loire appellations, from fresh, mineral-driven whites to elegant reds, along with rosés and sweet wines that reflect the multifaceted soul of this great French wine region.

In every bottle lies not only the expertise accumulated over more than two centuries of winemaking, but also the enduring passion that still drives the Saget family today: the conviction that wine is, above all, an expression of a territory and the culture that inhabits it.

Loire Valley

The Loire Valley is one of the largest and most interesting wine regions in France, located west of Burgundy: here, viticulture is practiced right along the namesake river. Various types of wines are produced, including whites, reds, rosés, sparkling wines, and even sweet wines. The Loire is especially famous for its excellent white wines, particularly from Sauvignon and Chenin Blanc grapes, though it also has a noteworthy production of red wines, mainly based on Cabernet Franc and Gamay.
The Loire Valley is also famous for Muscadet, a wine renowned for its ideal pairing with shellfish, made from the Melon de Bourgogne grape, which is called Muscadet in this region.

The climate in the Loire Valley is generally quite cool; both the temperature and the latitude place the region almost at the limit for the survival and cultivation of vines. This results in a particularly low sugar content in the grapes, producing wines that are light, low in alcohol, and characterized by high acidity. When barrels are used for maturation, the outcome includes robust wines with toasted notes, features that differ from what can be considered the classic styles of the region.

The region stretches along the course of the Loire River, the longest in France. The most suitable areas start from the cities of Nevers, Bourges, and Orléans. From these territories come the most famous wines of the region: AOCs such as Sancerre, Pouilly-Fumé, Vouvray, Savennières, Quarts de Chaume, Montlouis, Chinon, Bourgueil, Menetou-Salon, and Muscadet. The most important area of the Loire Valley is in the north, itself divided into three zones: one more westerly, near the Atlantic coast (around Nantes), where the AOC Muscadet is found, a central one with the AOCs Anjou-Saumur and Touraine, and an eastern one (south of Orléans), with the AOCs Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé. The production in the two outer areas focuses on white wines, while in the central area the production is varied, with whites, reds, rosés, sparkling wines, and sweet wines made from grapes affected by Botrytis Cinerea. The Loire Valley also has a vast area of Vin de Pays production.

Sancerre e Pouilly-Fumé

Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé are two of the most prestigious French wine denominations. These wine regions are located in the "central vineyards" of France, a region extending south of Orléans, up to the cities of Bourges and Nevers. Here, Sauvignon Blanc finds its ideal habitat, producing wines with unique and distinctive characteristics.

Sancerre is renowned for its refined Sauvignon Blancs, known for their lively acidity and complex aromatic notes. The vineyards in this area grow on soils rich in gypsum and flint, imparting a distinctive minerality to the wines. Parcels such as Le Grand Chemarin, Chêne Marchand, and Clos de la Poussie are emblematic examples of the terroir that contributes to the production of some of the finest Sancerre wines. In addition to whites, Sancerre is the only area in the region where red and rosé wines are also produced, made from Pinot Noir and Gamay grapes.

Not far away, on the eastern bank of the Loire River, lies Pouilly-sur-Loire, home to the famous Pouilly-Fumé. This wine derives its name from the characteristic smoky notes ("fumé" in French) attributed to the limestone soils on which the vines grow. These soils, rich in flint, give the wines an aromatic profile that ranges from minerality to a subtle smokiness, making Pouilly-Fumé a unique sensory experience.

In addition to Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, the central vineyards include other important denominations such as Menetou-Salon, Quincy, and Reuilly. In these AOCs as well, Sauvignon Blanc is the undisputed star, and the wines produced retain the elegance and freshness that characterize the entire region.

Recommended pairings and dishes

Matching by concordance

It pairs by similarity with dishes that share its lightness and delicacy: the aromas of acacia and dried fruit harmonize with summer herb salads, spinach gratins enriched with almonds, white meats in simple preparations, or fresh goat cheeses. Likewise, the delicacy of its floral and fruity profile finds a natural balance with recipes that favor aromatic herbs and creamy sauces.

Matching by contrast

To be played in contrast: its lively acidity and mineral texture support slightly rich dishes, balancing their structure. Thus, a fried trout or a mixed vegetable fry becomes lighter and cleaner on the palate, while a coconut milk curry or lime fish curry is enhanced and made more harmonious.

It pairs well with

Fried, steamed or curried fish; vegetarian dishes including vegetable gratin, fresh salads, herb-based first courses; white meats such as chicken, turkey or rabbit in delicate preparations; fresh or soft cheeses such as goat cheeses and mild blue cheeses.
