Production and refinement

Bolgheri Rosso Orio is produced on the hills of Bolgheri, Tuscany, at 140 meters above sea level, on sandy and clay soils rich in stones. The temperate climate, with long summers and mild winters, ensures perfect grape ripening. North-south exposure and constant ventilation contribute to producing elegant and complex wines. The vineyards are trained with a bilateral cordon system, with about 5,000 vines per hectare aged between 10 and 20 years. The area dedicated to this cuvée is approximately 1.5 hectares.

The grapes are hand-harvested in September, followed by fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at 28°C for 20 days. Malolactic fermentation occurs spontaneously during aging. Orio matures for at least 12 months in second- and third-use French oak barriques, followed by an additional 6 months in bottle, achieving balance and finesse.

Organoleptic analysis

Visual exam

Orio presents itself with an intense, almost velvety ruby red, captivating to the eye and hinting at the elegance contained in the glass.

Olfactory examination

On the nose, a complex and refined bouquet emerges, highlighting ripe red fruits, subtle spicy notes, delicate hints of vanilla, and touches of wild herbs. The olfactory symphony is at once warm and fresh, evoking the sun-drenched Bolgheri hills and the salty air of the nearby Tyrrhenian coast.

Tasting

On the palate, the wine reveals an elegant and velvety structure, with smooth, well-defined tannins balanced by lively freshness. The finish is long and enveloping, with a harmonious finale that recalls sweet spices and ripe red fruits, leaving an intense and pleasurable impression.

Podere Il Castellaccio

Alessandro and Enrica own a small but treasured winery in the Bolgheri region. In addition to the classic Bordeaux varieties typical of the area, they cultivate traditional red grape varieties like Pugnitello, Foglia Tonda, and Sangiovese. These choices give their winery a distinct identity, born from a desire to experiment and explore unique paths rather than following established ones, including traditional cultivation techniques.

Podere Il Castellaccio

Their wines are a precise expression of the territory, characterized by a unique and distinctive personality. The winery's vineyards are located on hillsides, benefiting from specific climatic conditions, with excellent exposures and breezes that temper the heat, resulting in fresh and characterful wines.

Tuscany

Tuscany is one of the most important Italian regions for wine, famous worldwide for its renowned labels. Here, wine truly has been part of history and culture for centuries, as far back as the 14th century with the establishment of the "Lega dei Vinattieri" (Wine Merchants Guild).
The Tuscan landscape also tells the story of the territory's strong winemaking vocation: from the hills of Chianti and the Etruscan Coast to the panoramas of Val d’Orcia and Val di Chiana, kilometers of splendid vineyards stretch out before our eyes, producing excellent wines.

Tuscany is one of Italy's most suitable regions for the production of quality wines and has conquered world markets since the 1980s. Bathed by the Ligurian Sea and the Tyrrhenian Sea, it has predominantly hilly terrain with a temperate climate, mild winters, and cool summers.
The various types of grapevines cultivated in Tuscany are greatly influenced by the soil on which they grow, ranging from sandy soils in the west to tuffaceous soils, and even clayey and calcareous soils.
A special mention goes to "galestro," a type of local soil that also gives its name to a wine from the Chianti area.

Bolgheri
